Eastshore Playground Continues to Shine as a Community Gem

May 2025

The impact of thoughtful design is evident at Eastshore Playground in New Orleans East. Originally re-envisioned by the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD) in partnership with Chase Marshall Architects, this project embraced a sustainable approach by incorporating upcycled shipping containers into a shared community space. Completed in 2020, the initiative has since transformed Eastshore Pavilion into a vibrant hub for neighborhood gatherings and activities.

This past May, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Engagement (ONE) hosted its second Neighborhood Cares Initiative Community Day of 2025 at Eastshore Playground. Check it out! Volunteers and city departments joined forces to improve the park and clean surrounding areas, showcasing the power of community-driven efforts.

The continued use of Eastshore Playground as a gathering spot highlights the success of its thoughtful design. It stands as a testament to the impact of intentional spaces, supporting the community for years after its initial completion.
